Job Description
Our client sells products to admit natural daylight into buildings through the roof. They design and manufacture a wide range of rooflights and have worked on projects as grand as Wembley Stadium and as humble as the smallest domestic extension.

The company is looking for a placement graduate for a minimum six month placement based in their office in Coventry. There is a chance this could evolve into a permanent job for the right person.
The role is to help the company extract better management information from their newly commissioned IT system. The system is Microsoft Dynamics AX which together with Microsoft CRM was installed just over a year ago. These systems enable the company to automate routine tasks and improve communication & to work more smartly by giving them much better visibility of what’s going on in the business and the general market. Over the last year the organisation has made some good progress towards realising these benefits but have much more to do and are therefore looking for someone who can help them make the most of the system they have bought.

This placement will involve delivering significant and quantifiable improvements to the quality and timeliness of the information on which the company’s managers base their decisions. The successful candidate will extract information from the database(es) and present it clearly (i.e. in graphs or “dashboards”) and where appropriate will suggest and implement changes to operational procedures in order to take best advantage of the new IT system’s capabilities. There is a good chance of a permanent position with the company at the end of the placement.

The graduate will report to the Financial Director but should be able to work on their own initiative and with people at all levels in the company.

Applicants must be recent graduates, with a relevant degree such as Engineering, Science, Economics, Business Administration, Logistics and IT related courses. Applicants with other degrees (e.g. Classics) will be considered if they have an active interest in using IT.

The successful candidate will:
• enjoy solving puzzles and helping others
• quickly understand the issues a manager or decision maker is grappling with and can help them work out what hard information is relevant and could be made available to them.
• Possess a precise mind & be able to find their way around data stored in the Microsoft AX database (and possibly other places) and who will
• enjoy not only extracting data but also making it understandable to both technical and non-technical people alike
• want to know why things are done the way they are
• enjoy finding better ways and convincing people to adopt them.

The ability to communicate clearly and precisely with both people and computers is central to this opportunity. This role requires both strong analytical skills and strong powers of persuasion.

Applicants should be confident in using Excel. We will provide training as necessary for any specific IT skills required, for instance SQL and Microsoft SSRS Report Writing, but a successful applicant is likely to enjoy working things out for themselves. Programming skills are an advantage.
